YASMIN Problems

I officially stopped taking my pill on January 7, 2011. I knew it could take awhile to see if my theory was correct. My allergy doc added that it could be up to 3 months before the hives went away. Guess what.. the hives are almost completely gone. I have been recording my hive outbreaks on a scale (0= I have none and 10= hives all over my body). The last month and half I have had about 10 days hive free and the rest I have rated as a one. The hives are even a different shape than before, a lot smaller and they go away faster. I am still avoiding peppers, tomatoes, strawberry's and anything spicy. It has been hard, but totally worth it.

However, about 12 days ago I got another scare. After going off the pill, I thought I would get my period on Febuary 7. It never came. Then the worries began.

I never have missed my period before and started to worry if it would ever come back or if  I could be pregnant. Two pregnancy tests later, I was NOT pregnant. I started to think I would never get my period and trying to make a baby would be fruitless. Thankfully, 9 days late, my period finally arrived.

I have never did so much research before on how ovulation works and the birth control pill. I think I was very naive when I was younger and thought the pill was the best choice. I never realized that the whole time I was on the pill, I never had a real period and I never ovulated in three years. Now knowing all the facts on how this little pill has really screwed me over, I will NEVER go back on any birth control pill and I really hope my friends don't either.
I got some better news when I saw Dr. Schieken last Thursday. He told me to take less medicine now. I am currently on 4 pills for the hives (xygel, zantac, singular and doexpin). I am decreasing my dose of doexpin for the next 2 weeks then stopping it completly. I am also stopping xygel and taking zyrtec (instead of allegra b/c it is type B drug) for my regular allergies. I have also been taking my prenatal vitamins (which taste and smell like fish).

Hopefully, my next update I will be hive free and have some pregnacy news.
