WEEK 1

We got to leave on Monday Jan. 2 from the hospital.  Bill and I were so excited to finally be able to leave.  I lost track of the days and hours since we arrived at the hospital.  I was craving fresh air and missed my bed so badly.

I wanted Colby to see his new home.  We were on our own and the real work was about to begin.  Over the next few days we feel into a jumbled routine.  Both of us were (and still are) adjusting to being parents.  Our day mainly consists of feeding him, changing him, watching him sleep and then the cycle begins again.  In between, we try to rest but it has been hard.

The first two nights were the hardest.  He slept so well during the day, but then at night Colby was fussy.  I would have to feed him every hour on the hour.  Then after Bill changed him, the whole process started again.  The first 2 days Bill and I got probably 2 hrs of sleep.  However, now we are learning to rest in the day more and he is sleeping very well until he needs his food.

We are tried, but what parents are not.  So far so good.  However, my breasts are very sore and feeding is taking a toll on me.  I feel like a cow with no time to do anything but feed and sleep.  Hopefully, I can pump in the next couple of weeks to relieve some soreness on my boobs.

Colby had his first doctor's appointment on Tuesday and it went very well.  He now weighs 8lbs.  By the next appointment, he should be back at his birth weight.  I already feel like he has gained some significant weight.

Breastfeeding has been difficult so far but I defiantly see the effects. I have lost 25lbs already and the babies poops are yellow in color... which is what they should be.  We have to change his diaper like 15x a day.  Both of us have been peed on several times now.  He has also gone through 3 outfits a day, so usually we just keep him naked most of the day.

Here is Colby at one week:
