WEEK 14

We have some big news!!!  Colby is starting to sleep through the night.  It has happened 3 days in a row.  You know what this means...Mommy gets a full night of sleep.  Even with all those extra hours of Z's, I still feel tired.  I guess that is what parenthood is about.  You will always be tired your whole life.

This weeks' exciting events include several new parent freak outs.  (1) He developed a very bad diaper rash.  (2) He has a flat spot in the back of his head.

I believe the rash was caused by the infrequent use of disposable diapers and the use of butt cream on the cloth diapers.  During the first 7 weeks, Colby used disposable diapers and after 3 days he would develop a rash.  Then, when we used the cloth diapers... no rash at all.  Vera, our daycare girl, alternates cloth diapers and disposables on the little guy.  I think she has been putting diaper cream on his butt when Colby is in the cloth diapers.  Butt Cream ruins the diapers and doesn't make them absorb.  I am hoping a few extra washing's will fix this problem.

The flat head thing is our biggest concern.  We have been noticing this bald, flat spot on the back of his head for a while, but we can't find a way to fix it.  Colby sleeps on his back and when we put him to the side, he eventually just moves onto his back.  It is very frustrating.  We got freaked out by photos of kids with flat head syndrome where they had to wear a  special helmet for 23hrs a day.  I don't want Colby to have to wear a helmet.  After several conversations with friends, I found out this is very common among their children.  Once a child can flip over, the flat-headiness will correct itself.  In the meantime, we are no longer placing him in the swing/bouncer and are increasing tummy time.

This week was also special since we had Friday off.  That meant we got to spend 3 whole days with the little man.  Bill and I went to the Salisbury Zoo for the afternoon.  Colby got to see all the animals.  Even though he is little, I think he enjoyed all the new sounds, smells and exotic creatures.

Here is sticky fingers at 14 weeks:
