The doctor and tech zoomed in on the "yolk sac" and took different measurements from a couple of views. By their measurements, the baby is only 5 weeks and 1 day. I thought I was 6 weeks and 1 day. Hence, I don't know what week I am. The doctor said at the next sonogram visit May 24 (weeks 8), he will be able to get a more accurate due date and see a heartbeat. Until then, I still don't know when the baby will be due for sure.. Christmas or New Years. I just want to see a heartbeat to confirm all my worries.

I also met with a diabetes educator at the Center for Material and Fetal Medicine in Annapolis. Maureen will be my full time diabetes adviser for the course of the pregnancy. She told me that by the time I am at the end of the pregnancy I will have to take triple the amount of insulin I currently am taking. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!. These are the facts.. diabetic woman become insulin resistant from pregnancy hence I will need a ton of insulin. Instead, I am now on Humulin NPH and I have to split my doses at morning and bedtime. I also have to monitor my blood sugars 2 hrs after each meal. This means I have to prick my finger like 8x to 10x a day. Crazy!!
On a positive note, I have told a couple of people. One friend I told by choice and the others I was kinda forced to tell. My best friend Amisha, who is also 5 months pregnant, was the first to find out. I called her to wish her a happy birthday and after talking for a while I mentioned that I just found out. Literally two days before her b-day. Amisha said it was the best birthday present ever. Basically, I got the idea for this baby blog from her and I knew I had to steal this wonderful idea. THANKS AMISHA.
My two co-workers Amanda and Mary Beth found out next only by accident. I was asked to help them initiate a Mysid study on Monday. As I begin to plop Mysids in one of the tanks, Mary Beth said jokingly, "By chance your not pregnant." All I could utter was, "ummmm, maybe". I couldn't lie because we work with dangerous chemicals and this particular one is dangerous for pregnant woman and those that breastfeed. So after that awkwardness, she said I could go. Later I talked to both girls and they are keeping hush at the moment..
Then last night I got put into another circumstance. Bill and I started a dessert cooking class at Chesapeake College on Tuesday nights. One of the girls brought in wine (which was super weird) and offered it to everyone. Instead of just saying "NO", I had to open up my mouth and say "I can't have any. I am pregnant." So yeah now I tell random strangers too. I just want to tell our families first and my other two best friends Nital and Zena, then I will feel so much better. I plan on calling Zena and Nital next week because I won't be able to see them until Amisha's shower in June. We are gonna tell the family Memorial day weekend and hopefully we will have a pic to show them.
